Counselling Services
BSc, PGdip
My name is Ellie Bennett and I am a person centred counsellor and psychotherapist based in Kendal Cumbria. I am pleased to accept bookings for counselling sessions at my private practice in Kendal or online. I specialise in offering counselling to young adults but have previous experience working with individuals from many different backgrounds, ages and life experiences. I provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space for individuals to explore a wide variety of personal challenges. I am a registered member of the BACP and abide by their code of ethics.
I hold a masters level PgD in counselling and psychotherapy from the University of Cumbria.
Prior to this I undertook a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology. This gave me transferable skills into counselling such as a broad understanding on human behaviour, helping me gain greater understanding of trauma and adversity and working with vulnerable and marginalised groups.
Alongside studying I gained years of experience as a Teaching Assistant across both mainstream, SEN settings and trauma-informed schools. I have experience in supporting children who have been impacted by complex trauma, including those with histories of abuse, neglect, attachment disorders, and other adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
I have employed trauma-informed strategies to create a safe, predictable, and nurturing environment to which individuals feel respected and supported.

About Me
My journey to becoming a counsellor has been one with challenge.
My passion for counselling was ignited by a lifelong desire to help, support, and truly listen to others. After completing my undergraduate degree in 2020, my life took an unexpected turn following the first lockdown, I became almost debilitated by symptomatic hypermobility. I was eventually diagnosed with a mixed connective tissue disorder—a process that took five years to diagnose. During this time, I redirected my energy into retraining in counselling and psychotherapy, driven by a renewed sense of purpose and a desire to turn my lived experience into something meaningful. I immersed myself into my studies, which became both a personal and professional lifeline.
This experience gave me a profound insight into the emotional impact of loss, particularly the loss of identity. It deepened my empathy and strengthened my commitment to supporting others who may be navigating grief, illness, or personal suffering.
Today, I offer a person-centred approach to counselling, working alongside each individual with empathy and respect. I believe in the importance of truly listening and meeting people where they are, helping them make sense of their experiences and move forward in a way that feels right for them. My aim is to support each person in feeling seen, understood, and valued throughout their journey.

How does counselling help?
Counselling provides a safe, confidential space where you can explore thoughts, emotions and challenges. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, grief, or relationship issues, bereavement, low self-esteem or feeling lost or stuck, counselling can help to make sense of what you're going through, help you gain clarity and build emotional resilience. My belief as a person-centred counsellor is that each individual has their own unique experiences. Having a non-judgemental environment to explore different thoughts and feelings can help you to regain confidence, which over time this can lead to increased self awareness, helping you to create a stronger sense of self and take back control of your life.
